Introducing Brethyn

Welcome to Brethyn Psychotherapy!

I’m Dr. Gwyn Schell, and I’m tremendously grateful for the chance to share more about my work with you.

I opened the doors to my practice on April 5, 2021, committed to providing compassionate care to a diverse range of individuals in a warm, non-judgemental, and inclusive virtual space. Pronounced breath in, Brethyn is a literal call to slow down, pause, and gain new perspective.

Starting a business is an exciting endeavor, and coming up with the right name was one of the first major decisions I faced. I chose Brethyn, the Welsh word for cloth, as both a nod to my own Welsh roots and a metaphor befitting the process of psychotherapy. In life, we often become tangled in difficult patterns that feel impossible to unravel. Brethyn provides the loom, or the framework, on which you can undo these knots and reweave your tapestry with new knowledge and skills. Be assured that you are a person of value and worth, and no matter what has happened in the past, your thread can always be rewoven. I will guide you every step of the way.

My many lived experiences, combined with more than a decade of training and practicing in the Madison area, has shaped me into an open-minded practitioner. I understand that no two treatment plans are alike, and lasting change doesn’t happen overnight. As such, my approach is collaborative. I will always make time for my clients, and will work with them as frequently and ongoing as they need.

I currently offer virtual psychotherapy sessions, and will continue to have this option available in the future to reach and serve clients all over Wisconsin. For those closer to the Madison area, I’ll be adding in-person appointments in the coming months. Mindfulness groups and improv therapy groups are also on the horizon, so be sure to stay in touch via email updates by signing up below and by connecting on Instagram and Facebook

New clients may self-refer or be referred by their physician. Services are self-pay (out of pocket), and an invoice can be provided upon request. If you’d like more information, please send me a message gwyn@brethynpsychotherapy.com.

Thank you for stopping by, and I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you. In the meantime, don’t forget to take a breath in.
